Empty Nest sold. Inspired by the tiny birds nesting in the open sand at Tennyson Beach, this sculpture reflects on vulnerability and exposure. The sculptured bird hangs its head. Is it contemplating or sad? Is it lonely or just alone? Why is the egg on the sand? Is that where it should be, has it hatched - or broken & from within or without? One is beginnings, the other endings. The nest is in an odd place—waiting to be used, or has its usefulness passed? Wood, copper wire, sand. 212 x 355 x 355mm Pod; Copper wire, 65 x 90mm.
